Why does ioby have a per-donor maximum matching amount in ioby match programs?

Updated on

Every ioby match program has a maximum amount per donor that will be matched. This is to ensure that campaigns crowdfund from a minimum of 5 donors to meet the mission of our crowdfunding match programs.

For example, many of our programs set a $1,000 maximum match per donor. So, if a supports gives a $2,000 donation, then the first $1,000 is matched, for a total $3,000 transaction to the ioby campaign.

Sometimes a donor sees this $1,000 maximum and chooses to give multiple times in order to exceed that limit. For example, donating $1,000 and then logging back in to donate another $1,000, for a total $4,000 with matching funds.

Sometimes our website does not catch that this is the same donor maximizing the match more than once. If this happens, ioby staff will review the transactions and communicate to you that match funds have exceeded the maximum per donor limit and will need to be removed.

We will always communicate with you first before removing a match funds violation.
